"Daytona Beach"

By:
Greg Benson
The ocean waves thunder and sea spray fills the air while gulls call out. These are just a few of the sensations to be experienced on Daytona Beach. Every spring bikers from around the world gather in this seaside community to shed the trappings of winter with a week long celebration. Beginning in 1937 Bike Week was about racing and bikes actually raced right on the beach heading north (hidden image in the sand), then turning onto the pavement to loop back around. The event has now grown far beyond just racing to include hundreds of events and hundreds of thousands of people attending. Looking at the huge hotels and condominiums lining the coastline it's hard to imagine what this area must have looked like only a few hundred years ago. Native Americans (hidden image in the sky on the right), lived in this area successfully for thousands of years. But a drastic change came with the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500's (spanish Galleon ships hidden on he ocean.) The Native American's way of live would soon comes to an end with Spaniards quest for gold and silver.
